Family Mediation Services

Type of service

Services offered
Mediation is a voluntary way of resolving disputes where a trained mediator (usually social workers, lawyers, psychologists or other professionals) helps parties of relatively equal bargaining positions to resolve their family law issues.

Voluntary family mediation services are an integral part of the family justice system and clients are encouraged to make use of these services as an alternative to the court process. These services include mediation of most issues arising due to relationship breakdown: custody, access, support, possession of the matrimonial home and division of property/equalization of net family property.

Onsite mediation services are available to deal with narrow issues for parties on that days court list, and are free of charge. For parties with more complex issues or who require more than one session, off-site mediation services are available for a fee. The off-site services are available to all clients regardless of whether or not they have filed a court application.
