NOVA SCOTIA JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED

OTTAWA, April 11, 2014 – The Honourable Peter MacKay, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Central Nova, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:

The Honourable Lee Anne MacLeod-Archer, a lawyer with LaFosse MacLeod in Sydney, is appointed a judge of the Nova Scotia Supreme Court, Family Division, to replace Mr. Justice D. W. Wilson (Sydney), who elected to become a supernumerary judge as of March 30, 2014.

Madam Justice MacLeod-Archer received a Bachelor of Arts from St. Francis Xavier University in 1989 and a Bachelor of Laws from Dalhousie University in 1992. She was called to the Bar of Nova Scotia in 1993. She practised with Stewart McKelvey Stirling Scales from 1992 to 2002. She was one of the founders of LaFosse MacLeod Law Firm. Her main areas of practice were civil and commercial litigation, including administrative law, bankruptcy law, and wills and estates.

Madam Justice MacLeod-Archer was a member of the Nova Scotia Barristers' Society, the Cape Breton Barrister's Society, the Nova Scotia Insurance Women's Association, and the Canadian Association of University Solicitors. She has been active in several community organizations, including having served on the board of governors of the Law Foundation of Nova Scotia.

This appointment is effective immediately.
