The Drug Treatment Conference will be a three-day event for key stakeholders, to be held October 15-18, 2006 in Edmonton, Alberta at the Westin Hotel. Canadian and international Drug Treatment Court professionals (judges, lawyers, academics, law enforcement agencies, addictions' treatment specialists, Aboriginal service agencies, community partners, youth workers, corporations and individuals) will be invited to attend. The conference will be educational, with a focus on consultation. It will support changes in national DTC programs resulting from federal and provincial initiatives. Interactive sessions will bring together those who are key to the success of Drug Treatment Courts to learn about and share ideas on the concept of DTCs, treatment issues, models of community participation, legal issues and the role of government in supporting these courts. The event will focus on building networks and partnerships required for the sustainability of existing programs and establishment of future DTCs across the country. Sessions will also be included on the emergence of various types of problem-solving courts (e.g., to deal with drug dependency, domestic violence).
