Purpose: This awareness and legal information project targets Francophone students in New Brunswick. Students from five schools will be invited to participate in various activities that have been conceived for the Canadian Bar Association New Brunswick Branch Law Day. The project aims to increase awareness among youth to access to justice in both official languages issues, explain the provisions of section 530 of the Criminal Code, explain what are the linguistic rights and the legal guarantees under the Charter and the Official Languages Acts of New Brunswick and of Canada and provide an overview of the main elements in the Youth Justice Criminal Act. This two-year project will be funded in fiscal year 2006-2007 under the Justice Partnership and Innovation Fund ($13,950) and in 2007-2008 under the Access to Justice in Both Official Languages Support Fund ($15,000).
