Disclosure of Grant and Contribution Awards

Grant and Contribution Details: 2007-2008 - 3rd Quarter
Recipient Name: BC ASSOCIATION OF SPECIALIZED VICTIM ASSISTANCE AND COUNSELLING PROGRAMS
Location: Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
Date: 2007-11-23
Value: $38,190.00
Type: Contribution
Purpose: The purpose of the project is to implement a province-wide policy to allow Third Party Reports (TPR) in sexual assault cases which is an important and innovative solution to the problem of low reporting rates. It is anticipated that Third Party Reporting will result in police getting more information about serial sexual predators which in turn would result in less women being victimized. The organization will develop a training module for one-day training for police officers and victim service providers in BC for the Third Party process, assess the training and make the necessary changes, and then hold a series of six regional training sessions for victim service workers and police throughout the province. The project will strengthen the ability of the criminal justice system to respond to the problem of low reporting and gain access to intelligence information that would otherwise not be available to police.
