The Blood Tribe, Kainai Justice Initiative will undertake research and assessments necessary to work towards the implementation of a "Peacemaking/Restorative Justice System". Areas to be assessed may include cultural components, including traditional practices utilized by the Tribe historically; appointing and training peacemakers and mediators; review existing restorative justice models, family mediation processes, linkages to the provincial court system and other various related factors. This will assist this community to take greater responsibility for justice administration and contribute to decreasing the rates of crime and victimization in an Aboriginal community. Phase II will include work on the development of the design of the Peacemaking/Restorative Justice model. It is anticipated that this work will be undertaken in tandem with the implementation of a program in the community.
