Purpose: The Mowachaht/Muchalaht First Nation has entered into a contribution agreement with the Department of Justice to manage the Mowachaht/Muchalaht First Nation Community Justice Program. The Mowachaht/Muchalaht First Nation Community Justice Program provides various alternative dispute resolution programs for the (approximately) 283 members of the Tsaxana Community located in the Centre North region of Vancouver Island. While the program is available to all community members, there is a particular focus on youth. The objectives of the Mowachaht/Muchalaht First Nation Community Justice Program include the MMFN to take a greater responsibility in the administration of justice to reduce the number of alcohol and drug related incidents in the community, while focusing on traditional values and beliefs to educate, and prevent future criminal behavior and incarcerations.
