The Prince George Urban Aboriginal Justice Society has entered into a contribution agreement with the Department of Justice to manage the Prince George Urban Aboriginal Justice Society Adult Program.
The Prince George Urban Aboriginal Justice Society Adult Program provides pre- and post-charge diversion for adults in the Prince George area.
The objective of the program is to reduce the number of Aboriginal people in contact with the law. The program intends to reduce the recidivism rates of Aboriginal people in the justice system, particularly for minor offences. It will also focus on reintegrating offenders back into their communities as active, productive members. This objective is realized through active and effective relationships with community organizations and key justice personnel within the area in order to build a referral base. Using an Aboriginal Circle model, the offender, victim and various representatives from the community work with the offender to reach an understanding of their actions and come to an agreement regarding the best way to heal the effects of those actions.
