The Blood Tribe has entered into a contribution agreement with the Department of Justice Canada to implement the Kainai Peacemaking Program. With a primary focus on Peacemaking, healing and restoring balance and harmony in the community, the ultimate goal of the Peacemaking Program is to deal with all aspects of Peacemaking, including the criminal justice system; domestic law; child, youth and family law; and civil law, including small claims. It will also deal with internal disputes within the community, including land and housing disputes and other matters within the Chief and Council jurisdiction.
The Program will provide services including alternative sentencing, alternative measures or any other referrals from the courts or the RCMP.
The second priority of the Program is within the child, youth and family protection and enhancement areas, as impacted by the Provincial Court system and the assumption of Blood Tribe jurisdiction in the area.
