Purpose: The Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations has entered into a contribution agreement with the Department of Justice Canada to organize and oversee an Indigenous Peacekeeping pilot training project. This training will be provided to six individuals from remote northern Dene communities. The objective of this project is to assist isolated, remote northern communities to take a greater role in the administration of justice while reducing reliance on local RCMP to respond, keep the peace and resolve disputes. This training will also support the on-going development of community-based justice programs, as well as, the goals of the Aboriginal Justice Strategy to contribute to decreasing the rates of crime and victimization in Aboriginal communities.
