Purpose: The project will consist in the offering of a French terminology course in criminal matters to defence lawyers of British-Columbia. The training will be divided between an online learning module on criminal French terminology and a practical workshop that will consist of a moot court where participants will have the opportunity to use the terminology learned in the theoretical module. The project will also allow raising awareness among youth and newcomers to linguistics rights related to criminal law. They will be asked to act as juries during the moot court. It is expected that the project will increase the capacity of the judicial system and of lawyers in BC to hold trials in French as provided by the Criminal Code.
