The "Medicine Bear Project" is a pilot project aimed at breaking the cycle of violence in Aboriginal communities by creating a system for mobilizing awareness, connection and safety plans for Aboriginal youth and women highly vulnerable to stranger and/or partner violence. This pilot project will create a culturally recognizable symbol that will increase awareness, connect with vulnerable youth and women and mobilize Aboriginal communities affected by violence issues.
The organization will also host community-based workshops that will provide a forum for family members of murdered and missing women to voice and share their experiences with vulnerable youth and women at risk of violence. Upon completion of the workshop, each participant will have the opportunity to create and develop an individualized safety and preventive action plan. It is anticipated that this pilot project will have a positive impact on the workshop participants leading to higher rates of prevention through the use of individualized safety plans.
