The Pangnirtung: Making Connections for Youth project will provide youth programming in the Hamlet of Pangnirtung, Nunavut. The Pangnirtung Youth Strategy offers twenty-five activity streams in five key sectors of community life that will create the conditions and capacity in Pangnirtung to inspire and support youth to succeed and achieve their full potential, and do so in a way where they feel respect, value, hope and support.
The Youth Justice Fund proposes to primarily support activities that directly impact youth involved in the justice system. Specifically, a Youth Justice Camp will be held each summer. The Camp will centre on traditional skills and include learning from the wisdom of elders, and the building of relationships with RCMP officers and other justice workers. The Camp will also provide a chance to explore contemporary topics such as substance abuse and mental health issues. Counselling will be provided, aimed at healing personal and community relationships. Funds will also be provided to help off-set some of the evaluation costs for the project.
