The Yorkton Tribal Administration Inc. has entered into a funding agreement with the Department of Justice Canada to manage the Capacity at the Grassroots Level Project.
The objectives of the Project are to provide the Yorkton Tribal Council member First Nations with education and awareness about restorative justice practices and programming in their communities, and to enhance the continuity of Community Justice Committees by developing a Community Justice Committee Terms of Reference. These objectives will be achieved through community workshops and a two-day justice gathering.
The community workshops will explore and address root issues in each community and assist each Community Justice Committee with the development of a long-term strategy to address them. The two-day justice gathering will bring the communities together to discuss their own initiatives and best practices and to network with other agencies such as RCMP, Child and Family Services, Probation Services, etc.
The Terms of Reference will outline the scope of services, terms of office, responsibilities and authority of each committee, allowing them to continue to move forward, even following changes in leadership.
