The Touchwood Agency Tribal Council Inc. has entered into a funding agreement with the Department of Justice Canada to manage the Touchwood Agency Tribal Council Community Justice Program for four member First Nations (Day Star, Gordon, Kawacatoose and Muskowekwan First Nations) and the community of Punnichy.
The objectives of the Program are to deliver alternative measures programming for youth and adults that are grounded in traditional First Nations values, beliefs and methods of dispute resolution. Elders and Community Justice Committees in each of the four member First Nations organize, guide and direct community justice activities. These activities include crime prevention; early intervention; healing, talking and sentencing circles; mediation and dispute resolution; alternative measures programs for adults and youth; victims services; and community-based correctional services that focus on offender rehabilitation and reintegration, and victim/offender healing.
The Program also co-ordinates and delivers training and workshops in restorative justice, crime prevention, section 81 of the Criminal Code of Canada and alternative measures for other First Nations communities and surrounding municipalities.
