The recipient proposes to deliver an intensive one-week therapeutic program to incarcerated youth involved in gangs in custody centres located in Manitoba and Alberta. Follow-up sessions will also be delivered. The program is designed to provide youth with new tools for self-reflection and anger management to help move them away from gang involvement. The program will include diverse techniques of engaging youth in cooperative, creative activities involving dance, music, art and meditation. It will also engage youth in conversation about underlying issues of violence, abuse, rage and bullying. Where appropriate, aboriginal cultural components will be incorporated to help foster therapeutic healing, cultural identity and a positive sense of self.
