Purpose: The Nak'azdli First Nation has entered into a funding agreement with the Department of Justice Canada to manage the Nak'azdli Alternate Justice Program. The Program provides alternative dispute resolution, circle sentencing, diversion, mediation and preventative education for members of the Nak'azdli First Nation in the Village of Fort St. James. The objectives of the Program are to deal with the harmful effects of the residential school system still afflicting the community, and to divert young offenders and first time offenders from the courts by using traditionally appropriate cultural approaches.
