Purpose: The recipient proposes to conduct a series of forums in the Greater Toronto Area to identify best practiced and the real or perceived barriers to intervening in the patterns related to the trajectory of youth from the child welfare to the youth justice system. The forums will include: focus groups, round table discussions, dialogues with key informants, panel discussions, surveys and training sessions. The format for each forum will be dependent on the requirements identified by the particular service sector which include: probation officers, defense lawyers, Legal Aid Duty Counsel, Crown Attorneys, Judges, Justices of the Peace, police, child welfare children's service workers, child and youth workers in group homes as well as youth themselves. The forums will: 1) gather information about the roles of different stakeholders and participants in the journey of cross over kids; 2) develop a forward-looking set of recommendations in terms of intervening in the patterns related to the trajectory: and 3) inform/educate the relevant service sectors about the unique issues related to Cross over Kids.
