Purpose: BC's Family Information Liaison Unit (FILU) will work directly with families of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls (MMIWG), to seek and gather outstanding information that many families are seeking about the loss of their loved one. Services will be provided in a trauma-informed, culturally-safe manner. As a "one-stop information service" for families, the FILU will provide a liaison function between families of MMIWG and other agencies and services, including the criminal justice system, social services, and policing. FILU staff will gather the requested information families seek, and where such information may not be available, they will be able to provide an explanation as to why that may be (e.g. investigation remains open, privacy law considerations).
